Work Together Regionally

To work better regionally, Lansing must facilitate partnerships with neighboring jurisdictions and the county, respect their needs, work cooperatively – and quickly – toward regional initiatives (like service sharing and major infrastructure projects). Lansing can’t move forward alone, and the region can’t move forward without Lansing.

Joe Manzella Mentioned in Lansing City Pulse

With the announcement that current Lansing Councilman Mr. Eric Hewitt will not be seeking re-election, the official race for Lansing City Council (1st Ward) is underway.

“The question will be whether he´ll get out and work in a race where some of the newcomers, like 25-year-old Joe Manzella, the manager at the nonprofit Lansing Area Economic Partnership, and Jody Washington, the vice president of the Eastside Neighborhood Association, could out-hustle him.”

These are just a few of the issues brewing in Lansing’s First Ward, which broadly makes up the northeast quadrant of the city, from the Grand River to the west to about U.S. 127 to the east.

And 2011 is an election year, with two At-Large City Council seats and the First and Third Ward seats up for grabs. It’s early — candidates have until May 10 to file — but already four names are being floated as First Ward contenders.
